Riverbend Malt House Announces Partnership with New Belgium Brewing
Riverbend Malt House has partnered with New Belgium Brewing on Old Tuffy Premium Lager, which now includes Riverbend’s Southern Select, a flavorful base malt produced with 2-row barley grown and malted in North Carolina.
“As a fourth generation alumni, I’ve wanted Riverbend to be a part of this beer since it was released,” says Brent Manning, Riverbend’s co-founder, “so it was really gratifying to have our malt included in the recipe.”

Sierra Nevada Sustainability: Brewers Recycle Better Together
“Friends of ours including Hi-Wire Brewing, Asheville Brewing Company, Catawba Brewing Co., and Riverbend Malt House unloaded trucks and vans filled with materials.”
“A big part of our story is local sourcing,” says Brent Manning, co-founder of Riverbend Malt House. “Beyond that, from a production standpoint…we’ve always had partnerships with local farmers to keep [spent] material out of landfill. But this recycling piece that captures our packaging waste was really kind of the last big-ticket thing that we were trying to find a better solution for.”

NC State News: Old Tuffy to Feature New NC State Connection
“Late in 2020, New Belgium made the decision to use Riverbend Malt House, located in Asheville, for a portion of the total malt needs in the production of Old Tuffy. Cans now hitting the shelves will feature the “Craft Malt Certified Beer” seal to illustrate the brewers’ dedication to local North Carolina farmers and the Riverbend Malt House.
